Correspondence Course for Inmates
The Inmate Correspondence Guitar School is a program that originates from JSI Guitar. The correspondence school was established in 1984. Shortly thereafter, a program was designed to specifically address the needs of an inmate.
The following pages will explain inmate correspondence as it relates to guitar study. What books for inmates are available, what inmate correspondence supplementary guitar studies are available, how the courses are laid out, frequently asked questions, and who to contact. Inmates, or inmate families, can receive an information package which explains the program in detail.
There are three core programs and numerous Supplementary studies which support those. The Moving Toward Great Guitar Playing Course is designed for Beginning to Intermediate guitar players. The Music Theory Course is designed for Intermediate to Advanced Guitar players. The Modal and Solo Composition Course is designed for Advanced guitar players.
The Correspondence Course for Inmates is an opportunity for an inmate to have a guitar centered learning experience customized to their skill level, interests, and goals. A program can be designed to help them reach professional performance level, or a recreational level where they can venture into a world of creativity in a positive and rewarding way. This is a way to help an inmate help themselves.
The Inmate Correspondence Guitar School is an instructor supported program. If a student has questions, they can write and get a quick response. If they have access to the internet, they can email their questions as well.
